October 21, 1948

Minister V. O. Martin and wife were Brownwood visitors Thursday.

Mrs. A. F. Wood and Mrs. K. Davenport were in Brady shopping one day this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Eolsbery are the proud parents of a daughter born Oct. 16. The little girl is Dr. DeGinder's first baby to arrive since his coming to our town.

County Judge Jack Miller was named county chairman of the Texas Rural Roads Association at a meeting held last Friday afternoon in the district courtroom, and will take immediate steps to appoint workers in the different precints to familiarize the people of the aims of the program and to solicit new members.

Showing a vague resemblance to one of Lil Abner's shmoos, a sweet potato with a horseshoe collar is on display in The News offce this week. The 'tater root apparently extended through the horseshoe and grew to a tight fit, bulging out on either side. The curio was grown by Joe L. Kennedy of Pittsburg, Texas, and sent here to his father-in-law, Paul Davis. Obviously, the horseshoe has brought the 'tater luck–it hasn't been baked yet.

Girl Scouts of Troop 5 hiked out to Mrs. Williamson's home Tuesday afternoon and enjoyed a one pot meal and played baseball. Girls present were Emilie Everett, Margaret Ann Moore, Martha Rae Owen, Anita Owen, Dorothy Simon, Joy Stewart, Lena Mae Jones, Peggy Lou Taylor, Nancy Smith, Carol Sue Wilder, Mary Ann Clark, Susie Miller, Barbara Crockett, and Mrs. V. G. Grady, leader, Mrs. Williamson, assistant leader, and we mustn't forget Skeeter. Thanks to Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Owen for bringing us home.

Stores in San Saba will close at 5 p.m. Friday in order for Armadillos boosters to make the trip to the Fredericksburg game to be played that night. Several hundred fans are expected to follow the San Saba High School grid team to Fredericksburg where it will seek its fourth consecutive district victory.

October 22, 1977

Mrs. W. G. Adams of Richland Springs was honored on her 80th birthday with a buffet supper hosted by her children.

Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Smith of Wallace Creek community observed their 55th wedding anniversary Saturday Sept. 17. A host of friends and relatives helped them celebrate the occasion with a covered dish supper at the Mill Pond Park.

Postmaster and Mrs. Jack W. Drewry announce the marriage of their daughter, Deana, to David Kendal Terry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel T. Terry. The couple exchanged marriage vows in a ceremony at Brownwood Friday Sept. 16.

It was a short agenda for the Richland Springs School trustees in the September meeting as they made application for a change of classification for their football team. Because of a shortage of boys coming up in future classes the Board approved the recommendation to change to 6-man football from 11-man. Currently a High School with less than 100 enrollment is eligible for 6-man football competition.
