Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
Booster vaccines are coming to San Saba next week, though it’s not clear whether a booster for Moderna or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) will be approved by then. The CDC and FDA are considering the booster for those vaccines and approval could be as soon as next week.
The TDEM (Texas Department of Emergency Management) is bringing a vaccination brigade to the San Saba Civic Center on October 21st and again on November 18th. Even if the recommendation on booster for Moderna and/or Janssen isn’t established by the October clinic date, we certainly hope that it will be by the November date.
If you have not had any vaccine up to now, then do consider coming to the Civic Center and receive a vaccine on one of those dates. They should have both Pfizer and Moderna available and possibly Janssen. The clinics are planned from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
You will find a link at the newspaper’s website or San Saba County site on Facebook to register for vaccine. Or, you can call Marsha Hardy (325-372-8570) to register. Registration is not necessary, but does allow us to plan how many vaccine doses to request.
Everett’s pharmacy has Moderna vaccine on hand now and is offering vaccinations from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays. They are hoping to receive a supply of Janssen vaccine in the future. There is no cost for any COVID vaccination.
As a reminder, there is free COVID testing now available at the EMS barn from 10:00 AM to noon on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (no appointment needed) and at the new MidCoast Well Care Clinic from 1:00 to 4:45 PM Monday through Friday (appointment required, call 936-307-0763).
Note by Dr. Whiting: In last week's message, I mistakenly put the wrong last name for the District Chief for Hamilton EMS. His correct name is Wesley Alexander, not Anderson. Wesley is over the EMS units stationed in San Saba and Mills counties, and is doing a fantastic job along with his EMS teams. My sincere apology to Wesley for this oversight.
