Here is information about the COVID-19 vaccine and testing being offered in San Saba this week:

VACCINE:

The FDA has approved a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine to be administered six (6) months or more after the second dose of the vaccine for those 65 years or older, or for those 18 years or older who have any conditions that make them more susceptible to COVID (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.). The booster for Pfizer is identical to the primary doses that a person receives.

If you have received the Pfizer vaccine in the past or have not yet been vaccinated against COVID, you are invited to sign up for the vaccine clinic being held at the San Saba Civic Center on October 21st and November 18th. The sign-up can be found online at the County’s website, or the newspaper’s website. You can navigate there directly by going to: <signupgenius.com/go/10c0c49aba92aa0f4c43-sansaba>. If you do not have access to

If you do not have access to the internet, you can call Marsha Hardy at 325-372-8570 to sign up.

The FDA is considering whether to recommend a booster for the Moderna vaccine and it is expected to approve that within the next few weeks. The recommendations are likely to be the same as Pfizer though it may be that the Moderna booster is half the dose of the original Moderna vaccine. There is no word yet on whether Johnson & Johnson will recommend a booster for those who received their vaccine.

If you have not received a COVID-19 vaccine yet or have only received a first dose of Pfizer or Moderna, you can sign up to receive either of those vaccines at this vaccine clinic. Alternatively, Everett’s Pharmacy is currently offering the Moderna vaccine every Friday at the pharmacy. There is no charge for any of these vaccines at the pharmacy or the upcoming vaccine clinics at the Civic Center.

TESTING:

The county has worked out an arrangement starting early next month with our EMS service and the new Mid Coast Central Medical Center (San Saba) to do free, rapid COVID testing. More details will be in the newspaper next week.
