COVID-19 updates and medical advice to community members

This is a table that summarizes the guidelines from CDC for isolation and quarantine for COVID as of January 1, 2022:

More details available here: <https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html>.

Remember that a positive test (whether a home test, antigen test, PCR, clinic, hospital, etc) is positive, and a person who tests positive should follow the isolation guidelines. There is no need to repeat testing.

The five days of isolation start at onset of symptoms or start with the positive test if symptoms are minor. A negative test may be false and so a person with symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, loss of taste or smell, etc) should isolate as if the test were positive.

Unfortunately people are contagious starting two days before symptoms start, so it’s important to isolate as soon as symptoms are recognized.

There is no need to retest after completing isolation or quarantine unless symptoms or fever persist.
