Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
The FDA and CDC have released the Janssen vaccine (aka Johnson & Johnson) to be administered again. The caution being shown in pausing immunizing with this vaccine is reassuring that they are seriously monitoring the safety of the vaccine. As of this printing, 15 women under age 35 have developed an unusual type of blood clotting disorder within three weeks of receiving the Janssen vaccine. This is an extremely rare complication. The vaccine is many times safer than even driving a car, almost 40,000 Americans die in automobile accidents every year.
The number of cases of COVID infection is increasing across the USA while at the same time the number of people vaccinated is also increasing. Since those who are vaccinated are NOT coming down with the infection, this means that unvaccinated people are coming down with COVID in larger numbers than we had seen before. This is likely due to the COVID variants that have appeared in the U.S. which are even more contagious than the original virus. This emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated.
Everett’s Pharmacy will again be offering the Janssen vaccine on Fridays on a first come basis (no appointment needed). If you can, it is helpful to go by the pharmacy before Friday to pick up the paperwork that needs to be completed before receiving the vaccine. The Baylor Scott & White clinic also has the Janssen vaccine, and it is administered by appointment.
We have asked the Texas Health Department and Department of Emergency Management to schedule another vaccination clinic with the Moderna vaccine. Monitor the Facebook accounts for this newspaper and for San Saba County to see when this might be scheduled.
Reminder from Marsha Hardy:
Keep trying to protect yourself and those around you!
Simply: wash your hands, wear your mask, pay attention to your surroundings and, mostly, be kind!
