• Message from Dr. Whiting:

There are now two vaccines approved in the United States, both offer a high degree of protection from the COVID virus. The Pfizer vaccine offers a somewhat better degree of protection for those over 65 years old but the extreme storage requirements for this vaccine mean that it will only be available from larger institutions that have the ultra-cold freezers. The closest such institution to us will likely remain Temple and Round Rock though I suspect that larger regional hospitals such as San Angelo and Abilene may also be able to acquire the Pfizer vaccine.

The Moderna vaccine is now distributed to multiple locations in the Hill Country including hospitals, pharmacies and nursing homes in the Hill Country. Those individuals in the highest risk groups are currently being vaccinated which includes hospital and clinic workers, EMS personnel, nursing home staff and residents. It is possible that within several weeks there may be enough of this initial vaccine so that other high risk individuals (elderly, those with serious medical conditions, etc.). We will make this known through the newspaper and other outlets as soon as we know.

Addendum: There are several thousand Baylor Scott and White Health employees who have already received the initial dose of one of the COVID vaccines (I just want to reassure everyone that health care professionals consider this safe and important).

Reminder from Marsha Hardy:

Keep trying to protect yourself and those around you!

Simply: wash your hands, wear your mask, pay attention to your surroundings and, mostly, be kind!
