The San Saba Commissioners’ Court met for a regular meeting on Monday, September 27th, in the Commissioners’ Courtroom. Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Commissioner Kenley Kroll gave the invocation and led everyone in the pledges to the American flag and the Texas flag.
Special Action Items (and Non-Action Items):
1. Approve Resolution 30 x 30 Land Grab for San Saba County:
Decision: This item was tabled.
2. Discuss and Take Possible Action Supporting Mills County Child Welfare Board:
Jody Fauley addressed the Court on this issue and said the person who used to be in charge of the San Saba Child Welfare Board (CWB) is no longer there. Mr. Fauley stated that at present, Mills County does not have a CWB. In the past, San Saba County CWB has used San Saba funds to also help children in Mills County. This Board helps out children who are put in the CPS system. (Some examples of what they do per child: $100 for clothes, $10-25 for birthdays, help at Christmas, etc.). Even though there are more children in San Saba County than in Mills County that need help, the San Saba CWB did not want the Mills County children to be left out. He noted the San Saba CWB is not asking for additional funds to help out Mills County children, just some direction on the matter of continuing to use San Saba tax dollars for another county’s needs.
Decision: The Court unanimously agreed to continue to use the current funds to also help out the Mills County children until which time Mills County creates their own Child Welfare Board. Judge Theodo sis will contact Mills County Judge to see what they can do. He felt sure Mills County would be willing to take over that task for their own county in their next budget year.
3. Discuss and Take Possible Action on COVID-19:
Ms. Hardy updated the Court on the current cases: four last Thursday, 36 in the last 15 days, and 38 in the last 30 days. She said rapid testing, by appointment, at the EMS station is being set up, as well as testing at MidCoast Wellcare in San Saba once it opens. Ms. Hardy also updated the Court on the vaccine clinics that are coming to town.
