The San Saba Commissioners’ Court met for a regular meeting on Monday, August 16th, in the Commissioners’ Courtroom. Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. They took a break from 9:40 a.m. to 9:53 a.m. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation and led everyone in the pledges to the American flag and the Texas flag.
Audience for Concerned Citizens For Public Comment:
Land owner and owner of Lonestar Land Company, Stephen Shipley, addressed the Court. He specializes in Ranchettes with 10, 20, 50, 100 acreplots to purchase. He talked about a subdivision dividing them in about one-acre lots. He was asking for guidelines and suggestions.
There was discussion on LCRA Park, the Museum, and THC removals. Jerry Blankenship gave the following update on the relocation of various items removed from the courthouse grounds at the request of the Texas Historical Commission:
“These items included: commemorative stones for Abe Galloway, and Judge Jack Miller and state historical markers for E.E. Risien, Camp McMillin and United Confederate Veterans William P. Rogers Camp 322. The stone for Abe Galloway has been placed at the San Saba County Historical Museum and the E.E. Risien marker has been moved to the LCRA Nature Park. . . . Judge Miller’s stone will, pending approval of the Cmmunity Foundation, be located in the Estep Burleson Plaza. . . . The Camp McMillin marker will be located near the grave of N.D. McMillin at the McMillin cemetery. . . . (THC) agreed that the (Veterans Camp) marker topic did indeed have a significant historical association with the courthouse. Accordingly, the marker will be returned to the courthouse grounds.”
There was also discussion about signage in front of Bend General Store for “No Parking” brought up by Pat Pool. It was discussed about widening the road to 30 feet and the installation of two cattle guards.
