City Manager Scott Edmonson gave updates to the City Council at last Tuesday's meeting.
The railroad tracks have finally been mowed, and the owner is supposed to come back and spray it. The city office called the owner several times as well as the representative for the Railroad. After no progress, the city contacted Senator Pfulger’s office who made some calls and made things happen. City Manager Edmonson stated, “we are very appreciative of that.”
The EDC parking lot will be redone on August 9th and will take about a week. Striping will be done that will make it better for bigger vehicles.
There was an issue with paving Commerce Street. About three blocks of it didn’t stick. The supplier has been questioned about the product used, but it was no different from previous product used. The same equipment and method were used as before. The current thought is that the high temperatures may have had something to do with it.
The old hospital has one tenant about to move in, a massage therapist. There are plans for another tenant to move in where the clinic used to be. This tenant will help with pregnant women and women with children. An ultrasound machine has already been donated. They will help with education, car seats, diapers, etc.
Opening bids for the water lines (ARP funds) will start on Thursday.
All city employees are current with the pesticide licenses. The city has two vacancies,

The plan for the splashpad is still moving forward with the company Vortex. The plan is “quick connects'' which means different things / features can be added to it in the future.
There was a water leak on Wallace Street which has been repaired.
After City Manager Edmonson gave these updates, Scott Glaze, Public Works Director, stated the golf course looks good. New grass was planted, and three to four greens were opened up for play.
Michael Wadsworth, Code Enforcement Officer, updated the Council on a burned house that has now been removed.
Mr. Edmonson also showed a thank you note sent by some local children to Mr. Wadsworth for helping with the Nature Kamp in June.
