Mayor Ken Jordan called the December 12th meeting of the City Council to order, announced a quorum, and Alderman Michael Nelson led the invocation and pledges.
Public Comments:
Brian Rogers signed up to speak and addressed the Council explaining that he had visited Mill Pond Park several times, and the only thing missing was a 'Thank You' to the City for a Beautiful Public Display.
Presentations:
Bridgett Macedo, Utility Billing Coordinator, was selected as the Employee of the Month for December. Alderman Michael Nelson and Charlene Lindsay, City Treasurer, presented Bridgett with a plaque with her name on it and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Luis Rios, Street Department Supervisor, was selected as Supervisor of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter. Alderman Michael Nelson and Public Works Director Scott Glaze presented Luis with a plaque with his name on it and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Consent Agenda:
On a motion by Alderman Shawn Oliver, seconded by Alderman Marcus Amthor, Council unanimously approved the following: minutes from the November 15, 2022, Council Meeting; Payment of Bills; approved Resolution No. 202241 reappointing four members (Marcie Butler, Sandra Vaughn, Debbie Shahan, and Cissy Williams) of the Keep San Saba Beautiful Commission, term up for renewal, January 2025; approved Resolution No. 202242 reappointing three members (Martha Leigh Whitten, Rick Baskin, and Clay Nettleship) of the San Saba Economic Development Corporation up for renewal for terms expiring January 2025; approved Resolution No. 202243 reappointing five members (Cathy Amthor, Kynda Jordan, Debbie Shahan, Kevin Shahan, and Shawn Oliver) of the City of San Saba Parks Committee up for renewal term expiring December 2024; approved Resolution No. 2022-44 a resolution reappointing two members (Patty Shaw and Devon Hoyt) of the City of San Saba Planning and Zoning Commission up for renewal, terms expiring January 2026.
Discussion/Action Items: The first action item was to Discuss and Consider Approval of Ordinance No 2022-10, an Ordinance of the City of San Saba, Texas, Amending Article 2.01, Animal Control, Section 2.01.011, Nuisances, to Address Bees within the City; Providing for an Effective Date, Providing a savings clause, Severability Clause, and Effective Date. Alderman Michael Nelson made a motion to approve Ordinance No. 2022-10, seconded by Alderman Oleta Behrens, and was unanimously approved by a 4 to 0 vote.
City Manager’s Report: City Manager Scott Edmonson gave a brief report on the following activities in the City of San Saba:
• The City's Annual Christmas Party had a great turn out and thanked everyone that attended
• Service Year awards that were presented were five years Charlie Boyce; 10 years Jason Vogel, GT Meador, and Jose Rocha; and 20 years Robert Carroll
•We will be meeting Morgan Verette with PMI next Friday to discuss the Splash Pad
• The City Guys helped the Chamber to set up for Sip N Stroll, working on the Park Lights, and the Streets
• The Solar Eclipse Committee will meet in the morning regarding plans for a viewing site, location for Port-a-potties, and working on a public information
• TexasA&M Rural Med visits 10 counties, and we will be sharing a week with Llano County. The Med Student is from Sugarland and will be working with Dr. Whiting and other clinics in our area to promote rural areas and promote medicine to kids in our community the week of March 20th through March 25th
• Joined with Llano on the Hazard Mitigation Plan
Scott Glaze, Public Works Director, gave a brief update on the City’s occurrences:
• The waterline nightmare on Wallace Street is finally done
• Now working on 5th Street
• Pressure tested Fentress and took Bac-T Samples.
Michael Wadsworth, Code Enforcement Officer, reported: Trying to get Bluffton cleaned up and there is now a roll-off on the property.
Police Chief John Bauer reported: worked the Christmas Parade and had a great time; the Chamber sold just shy of 900 tickets to Sip N Stroll this year.
