City Council holds regular meeting, April 12th; Stewart named April Employee of the Month

The San Saba City Council held a regular meeting on Monday, April 12th, in the City Hall Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the Council to order at 6:00 p.m. and welcomed everyone. Alderman Marcus Amthor gave the invocation and led everyone in the pledges to the American flag and the Texas flag.

The following Council members were in attendance: Mayor Ken Jordan; Robert Whitten, Mayor Pro-Tem; Marcus Amthor,

Alderman; Shawn Oliver, Alderman; and Michael Nelson, Alderman. Others present at this meeting were: Sabrina Maultsby, City Secretary; Charlene Lindsay, Finance Director; Scott Glaze, Public Works Director; John Bauer, San Saba Police Chief; Michael Wadsworth, Code Enforcement Officer; Javier Baez, citizen; Brian Rogers, citizen; Chris Stewart, Parks Department Employee; Eugene Bessent, Parks Department Supervisor; and Djuana Payton, Reporter for San Saba News & Star. Alderman Oleta Behrens was absent. Public Comments:

None.

Ceremonial Presentations:

1. Employee of the Month award for April, 2022:

“Employee of the Month” Award for April 2022: Chris Stewart, Parks Department employee, received recognition as April’s Employee of the Month. His supervisor, Eugene Bessent, stated Chris works really hard and has done all that has been asked of him. He noted that Chris is also the fire chief, has been to a lot of fires lately, and is appreciated. Chris’ name was engraved on a dedicated “Employee of the Month” plaque. In addition, he received a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Consent Agenda Items:

1. Minutes from the March 8th, 2022 Council Meeting.

2. Payment of bills presented to the City Council.

3. Item Removed.

4. Approve Resolution No. 2022-07 a Resolution to waive an Ordinance defining noise nuisances for April 30, 2022 at Risien Park.

5. Approve Resolution No. 2022-08 a Resolution to waive an Ordinance defining noise nuisances for May 7, 2022 at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion.

Decision: The Council voted unanimously to approve all of the above items.

Discussion/Action Items:

1. Approve Proclamation declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month and April 13th “Go Blue Day" to support Child Abuse Prevention.

City Manager Edmonson said this is part of a joint proclamation with San Saba County, and there would be a program at Mill Pond Park on Wednesday, the week of this meeting, at 11:00 a.m.

Decision: The Council unanimously approved the Proclamation declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month and April 13th “Go Blue Day” to support Child

Abuse Prevention.

2. Discuss and consider approval of Resolution No. 2022-09 a Resolution of the City Council of the City of San Saba regarding a Contract for the purpose of Financing a Tractor for the Street Department.

City Manager Edmonson noted this was approved during the budget session, and this vote is the normal procedure to go into agreement with government capitol. There was discussion about the specifics about the vehicle.

Decision: The Council voted unanimously to approve Resolution No. 2022-92 a Resolution of the city Council of the City of San Saba regarding a Contract for the purpose of Financing a Tractor for the Street Department.

City Manager's Report:

City Manager Edmonson gave the following updates:

LCRA Step Forward Day was last Friday. They laid grass down at Mill Pond Park, put mulch in some of the playground areas, and painted the majority of the picnic tables.

The City-Wide Cleanup was last Saturday and was one of the largest attended. He stated he is very thankful to the KSSB ladies and to everyone who came out to help. Eight tons of trash, 59 tires, and one ton of metal were collected and brought in.

The Dove Project Golf Tournament went well.

He gave a detailed update on the Splash Pad. It will probably be next year before it is operational.

He and Mr. Glaze have gone over the streets list and have made some modifications of the conditions and are still working on that. They are getting Commerce ready for paving. He also gave other updates on the streets. He gave the Council a heads up that the prices of materials are going up quite a bit.

The Tank Project is 97% completed.
