San Saba News & Star would like to extend our utmost appreciation to our San Saba County First Responders.
First Responder Story By Sue Ransom
I have reason to be grateful to both our EMT service and Sheriff Jenkins. Some time ago I had a serious pancreatitis attack. I thought I was dealing with the vomiting and didn't realize I was getting dehydrated. By the time I figured out I was in serious trouble and called my husband, I was unable to get up and walk. He called the 911 number and in a reasonably short period of time the kindest people showed up at my door. I was not coherent by that time, so I didn't really know what was going on around me. I came to in the ambulance with the EMT person saying I can't get a vein, hurry. My husband said one minute he was following and the next we had disappeared. I believe they saved my life that night.
Sheriff to the Rescue
Sheriff Jenkins came to my rescue after a deranged person came to our church service and threatened me right in the middle of the service. The person had left before he arrived, but he calmed me down and guided me through the process that would not allow this person to harm me or threaten to harm me. He made sure that person was aware that never again was I to be bothered.
A Special Note
I could ask anyone in this community 'who would you call if you were in trouble?'I guarantee that 90% of them would say Mondo Garcia.
He is always available to people in the community. He comes out to take care of rattlesnakes. He comes when someone is ill. He will advise when you have fire hazards that need fixing. He's there when there are wrecks on the highway. He's our Mr. Community.
First Responder Story By Lindy Shulz
I think I may still be on record for having the worst bicycle accident ever here. I had ridden over 40 miles in 106 degree temps, stopped to get tea at Stripes. Went to continue my ride with AC/DC in my ears doing my happy loop to loop ride to the music and went full force down at the gas pumps! I was knocked unconscious, had a compound fracture to my left leg and completely shattered my left ankle. Both police and EMS were amazing and kind, even Mandy McCoury who was off duty was first on scene. She got my car and followed me to be with me at the hospital! When I had my heart attack years later, and had to be helicoptered out, Heather Land Morris was absolutely incredible as my flight nurse!
