Djuana Payton, Editor, and SS VFD volunteers
The San Saba Volunteer Fire Department was called out July 18th for a fire on CR 114. Quick measures were taken to help save a house and protect everyone. Read the story in next week’s edition of the San Saba News & Star.

While responding to the fire, the Department’s 1990 model Dodge brush truck suffered mechanical problems, costing much more to repair than the unit is worth. The department stated this would put them without a critical component during the drought.
After more consideration, the SS VFD decided it does not want to be without a brush truck for the six months that it would take to find a “new” truck. Therefore, they are having major repairs done to the old unit so it will limp along for another season.
The drought and extreme temperatures are very hard on everyone. Please be safe and take extra measures to prevent a fire. These measures will also help to protect out VFDs folks as they are always willing to come to our aid - no matter the temperature outside.
A reminder from the San Saba VFD:
Please - during these hot, dry, and windy conditions, refrain from any activity that could lead to a spark or flame (examples: cutting, grinding, welding, burning, discarding cigarettes, etc.).
We appreciate our first Responders. See next week’s edition for another First Responder Story.
