San Saba Track and Field impresses at Bluebonnet Relays

The San Saba High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed on Thursday, March 24, in the annual Bluebonnet Relays meet hosted by Brownwood High School at Gordon Wood Stadium. The Dillos and Lady Dillos competed against solid competition from many smaller schools across the state including Bangs High School, Brady High School, Campbell High School, Cherokee High School, Coleman High School, Comanche High School, Cross Plains High School, De Leon High School, Dublin High School, Early High School, Goldthwaite High School, Gordon High School, Gorman High School, Gustine High School, Hamilton High School, Lingleville High School, Lometa High School, Mason High School, May High School, Odessa Compass Academy, Richland Springs High School, Tolar High School, Veribest High School, and Wall High School.

Dillos

For the Dillos, it was Drake Bryant who really excelled in the 400-meter dash finals as he tied for second place in a large field of 30 runners with his fastest heat of 52.98 seconds.

In the boys’ high jump field event, Reagan Mejia got a bronze medal with a third-place finish as his jump of 6’2” was his highest mark.

Tied for fifth place in the boys’ 100-meter dash for San Saba was Wesley Lackey as he put forth a great effort with a time of 11.59 seconds.

In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, San Saba’s own Lance Taylor also recorded a solid fifth-place finish for the Dillos with a time of 45.55 seconds.

The foursome of Mejia, Franco Franco, Tyler Johnson, and Ethan Gonzales was able to place fifth in a competitive boys’ 4x100-meter relay finals with a time of 45.45 seconds.

Lady Dillos

For the Lady Dillos, they had a sixth-place finisher in the 800-meter run in a field of 20 runners as Jenna Lambert had a solid time of 2:44.16.

San Saba also placed eighth out of 12 team entries in the girls' 4x200-meter relay as the foursome of Lambert, Landri Glover, Lexy Amthor, and Cinzlea Stanton combined for a 1:56.73 mark.

In the girls' high jump field event, Amthor tied for ninth out of 17 competitors as she finished with a score of 4’4” as her highest jump.
