September 24, 1981

We can't tell what the temperature will be these days. It was 65 degrees this morning and now it is in the high 90's. Last Friday morning we had a cool norther to pass through which brought the temperature down to 48. Saturday was also a cool day and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Another building in Richland Springs is getting a "new face." The old filling station on Bob Taylor's place next to the highway is being remodeled for a new business. Mrs. Travis Berry will make an announcement at a later date.

San Saba Municipal Golf Course attracts golfers from all over Central Texas, noted as one of the finest 9-hole courses in the state. Some tournament enthusiasts even flew in by helicopter last weekend for the Men's fall Tournament, which is the last big event of the summer season.

Otto Bynum had a load of Delicious apples at the Courthouse Sunday. Looked like business was good – Tuesday there were melons and cantaloupes.

Marion McNair, a native of San Saba will possibly be returning after 27 years. He is getting his place fixed to bring Quarter horses from Ft. Worth.

Friends of Ineke Ray wish her a very Happy Birthday – Sept. 30!

'Round the County – We heard the Pontotoc community had a fantastic fundraiser barbeque at the Community Center. The meat, all cooked locally consisted of chicken, beef, pork and goat was completely sold out. A band from Fredericksburg entertained the large crown that came to have a good tome and help raise money for a fire truck. Proceeds came to approx. $8,000. Congratulations!

September 9, 1971

The Rev. and Mrs. Hugh Magee were honored with a farewell party following prayer services at Richland Springs Baptist Church. The Magees moved to Brady last week, after he retired as pastor. Members of the church presented them with a love gift, and ice cream and cookies were served to those present.

San Saba High School Homeroom 9-1 had its first meeting in Mr. Rainey's classroom. Offcers elected were John Berryhill, president; Michele Doran, vicepresident; Cherie Brown, secretary; Ann Busby, treasurer; and Nita Bessent, reporter.

There were two babies born at San Saba Memorial Hospital from August 30 through September 6. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Davis are the parents of Shawn Alan, eight pounds, three ounces, born September 1. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Martinez, Jr. are the parents of Ronnie M., six pounds, born September 1.

1 Small Cool Whip

1 pkg. Orange-Pineapple Jello

Mix Jello dry with Cool Whip, stirring until completely dissolved so it won't be grainy.

1 small carton Cottage Cheese

1 303 size can Fruit Cocktail, drained

Add cottage cheese and drained fruit cocktail to Cool Whip mixture, mixing well. Refrigerate. May be served as dessert or serve on lettuce leaf for salad. Variation: Use lime Jello and crushed pineapple instead of fruit cocktail.

The ICT class of San Saba High School had its first meeting when offcer election was held. The offcers elected for 1971-72 are: president, Henrietta Edmondson; vise-president, John Moreno; secretary, Martha Edgerton; treasurer, Cherylise Miller; reporter, Andrew Jimenez; parliamentarian, Dwayland Bates; acting advisor, Manuel Soto; and sergeant-at-arms, Jerry Spinks. The new ICT sweetheart honors went to Henrietta Edmondson. The sponsor this year is again Ray Harris.
