San Saba High School had two Class of 2021 former standout student-athletes recognized this week by the San Angelo Standard-Times with Brighton Adams and Courtnee Cash. The duo was honored in an article written by Paul Harris as just a handful of student-athletes in the top 10 sports newsmakers in San Angelo and West Texas.

In 2021, Adams was the state champion in the Class 2A girls 800-meter run. She defended her title from 2019 after the 2020 state championship track meet in Austin was canceled due to the coronavirus. Adams was the silver medalist in the 400-meter dash in 2021.

On the basketball court, Adams was also an all-state girls basketball player who helped lead the Lady Dillos to their fifth straight regional final for Class 2A and eventually signed with Angelo State University to play women’s basketball beginning in the 2021-22 season.

Cash was a repeat selection as the All-West Texas Girls Basketball Super Team MVP. During an outstanding 2020-21 season for the Lady Dillos basketball team, Cash helped lead San Saba to a dominant 26-2 overall record that saw her team reach the Class 2A regional finals again. She eventually signed to continue her women’s basketball career at NCAA Division II Cameron University in Oklahoma.
