Statement from Representative David Spiller on SB 4 U.S. Supreme Court Decision

As the Sponsor of SB 4, I couldn’t be more pleased and proud of the ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court. It is outstanding to see six of the nine Supreme Court Justices side with the State of Texas over the Biden administration.

While today is a win for Texas, the fight is not over. We still have an upcoming hearing in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and a trial on the merits.

I want to thank Governor Abbott, Attorney General Paxton and his staff, and all of the team that has worked hard to defend the attacks on this bill. I will continue to work to have SB 4 upheld and to allow Texans the right to protect Texas, especially when the Biden administration completely fails and refuses to secure our border and to enforce existing federal immigration law. As I have said from the beginning, I believe SB 4 is completely constitutional because it is not in conflict with the precedent set in the Arizona v. United States case, it’s not preempted by existing federal immigration law, it’s not in conflict with existing federal immigration law, and Texas has the absolute constitutional right, authority and ability to protect and secure its borders and its sovereignty.
