On Thursday, May 6th, Alice Smith presented a keyboard to Chaplain Anderson Barclay for chapel services at the TDCJ (Texas Department of Criminal Justice). Also attending the presention were Major Karla Bailey and Captain Sandra Ahara. Ms. Smith was the choir director at the TDCJ from April 2014 until March 2020 when the services were cancelled because of the COVID pandemic, and her husband, the late Larry Lee Smith, was a volunteer chapel speaker.
On Friday, April 27th, 2016, Ms. Smith received a Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award at the Omni Hotel Downtown in Austin, Texas.
She will be moving to Zanesville, Ohio, this month and remembering the privilege and honor of directing the choir at the chapel services.
