SS Youth Sports: 8U Girls and Boys both win Championships!

On Saturday, May 10th, the 8U Dillos and 8U White Lady Dillos (Fuller) competed in their district baseball and softball tournaments.

Throughout the season and in these tournaments, both teams have battled against surrounding towns such as Mason, Menard, Junction, Brady, Goldthwaite, and Llano.

The 8U Lady Dillos ended their season with an impressive 13-1 overall record. Their team consisted of five players returning to 8U softball, three players that came up from tee-ball, and five more players brand new to the game. This young team defeated Mason in the semi finals and Junction in the final round of the tournament to be declared district champions.

The 8U Boys also boasted an impressive 14-2 overall record! Their tournament day was full of excitement as they played four total games for their tournament and came to the championship round against Junction. In the championship game, the boys were down by 8 going into the last regulation inning. They managed to bring the score to a tie and entered into extra innings. San Saba and Junction battled back and forth for five extra innings, making the game 11 innings long. In the 11th inning, the boys matched Junction's runs and had Wylie McNeely, one who came up from tee-ball this year, up to bat. Wylie got a hit, and Easton Naizer, another player new to 8U, was the winning run! Final Score: 25-24.

Both the boys and girls worked incredibly hard this season and made San Saba proud as they became champions. The older leagues have their district tournaments this coming weekend, but one thing is for certain: the future of San Saba Baseball and Softball looks bright!
