SS County's first animal shelter nears opening

Exciting things are happening for the animals of San Saba County! After years of rescuing and fostering out of homes and barns, San Saba County Friends of Animals is finally opening the county’s first-ever animal shelter — and we’re hoping to open our doors by January 1st.

The new 50x50 building has come a long way in just a few short months. We have already completed spray foam insulation and had heating and air conditioning installed. Next up is finishing our cat room, sealing the concrete floors, and building the perimeter fencing so the dogs can safely enjoy outdoor space.

To make this dream a reality, we’re inviting local families and businesses to be part of something lasting. Kennel sponsorships are $4,000, which covers the inside and outside kennels, concrete work, and a pulleydoor system.  Each sponsor will have a permanent plaque on their kennel—something hundreds of visitors will see for years to come. This is a great way to show your business support or to honor a lost loved one. We currently only have two sponsors and need eight more to open.

We’re also looking for monthly supporters to help with ongoing costs like utilities, food, insurance, and vet care. Even $10 a month makes a big difference. You can set up a recurring donation by visiting SanSabaAnimals.com, clicking Ways to Give, and selecting Recurring.

This shelter represents a major milestone for our small community and every animal that needs a second chance. Together, we can make sure San Saba County’s animals finally have a safe place to call home.
