Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
Psalm 7:11 “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.”
Sin is seen by God as it is. It cannot be white washed or cleaned up so it looks good to him. He judges sin as it is for what it is and how it deserves to be judged.
All unconfessed or unrepentant sin must pass before the bar of God’s judgment.
Since God does not change in his attitude toward sin, it is and remains forever under his righteous indignation. (Above: “Angry with the wicked every day.”) God’s anger toward sin can only be measured by the price that must be paid for its remission.
We see in the first place that Blood shed is required – Hebrews 9:22 “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” It was instituted and demonstrated in the Garden when sin entered the world through Adam’s disobedience; Genesis 3:21 “Unto Adam also and his wife did the Lord God
make coats of skins, and clothed them.” God himself shed the first blood of those innocent animals to cover Adam and Eve. A picture of the price to cover our sins, but it would not be the blood of animals, but of God’s own precious, perfect Son: “The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29b.
Then, it was emphasized in 1 Peter 1:18,19 – “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your father, 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without spot.”
It was declared in Romans 3:24,25 – “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.”
We see also that blood is the justifying agent; not just any blood; but only by the blood of Christ: Romans 5:9 “Much more then, being justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Somebody must receive the wages, or, pay for what we have done, and the Bible says in Romans 6:23 that “The wages of sin is death.” This is your pay for sin, your earnings for your life’s work.
Ezekiel 18:4 “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished bringeth forth death.” We’re all in the same boat heading for destruction unless somebody saves us, and we cannot save ourselves; we are the problem, Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Someone has to die, but there is hope! Hebrews 2:9 “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man” Your death sentence has been carried out and the penalty satisfied by Jesus Christ. It is free to you, if you will receive it – Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
