The gospel hymn says, 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know.' It is amazing how many songs and hymns have been written to praise the name of Jesus. His is a name that should bring up sweet thoughts because his name is Wonderful. The last part of Isaiah 9:6 says ' and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.'
Oh, what a lovely name!! One reason His name is wonderful is because of what we can claim through it: Romans 10:13 ' For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'
We receive salvation through his name. Further, we find it is only through His name, and faith in his name, Acts 4:12 ' Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.' Then, we see that this name identifies the most important person who ever lived on this earth, Philippians 2:911 ' Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name that is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.' His name is a name to start the day with. In our prayer life, we are encouraged to come to the Father through his name. As a matter of fact, His name Emmanuel identifies him as God; 'Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.' Therefore, all that we get from God comes through our relationship with his Son, Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:13,14 ' And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.' The Christian can claim all he needs through the name of Jesus Christ.
