Our Churches and nation are in need of another “Great Awakening.” I preached last Sunday morning from 2 Chronicles 7:14 on the subject of, “the desperate need for revival.”
I want to continue that thought in this article from Psalm 85:6 “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” There are about 10 things I find concerning revival in verses 6-13.
1. Brings rejoicing to God’s people: “that thy people may rejoice in thee.” v. 6 2. Comes from God because of his mercy: “Shew us thy mercy” v. 7 3. Salvation is granted to those who ask: “and grant us thy salvation.” v. 7. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
4. It takes a hearing ear: “I will hear what God the LORD will speak.” v. 8 5. It brings sweet peace to his people: “for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:” v. 8 6. It will be lasting: “but let them not turn again to folly.” v. 8 7. God’s glory will be seen: “that glory may dwell in our land.” v. 9 8. Mercy and truth, and righteousness and peace will prevail: “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.” vs. 10, 11 9. God’s goodness will be experienced: “Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.” v. 12 10. Our steps will be guided by righteousness: “Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.” v. 13 There are so many other truths and benefits that come from revival, but we have neither the space nor time to list them all, but here in these few verses we are allowed to see that revival would make a great difference in our individual lives and in the life of our nation. I believe that it is imperative that true revival breaks out in America.
Revival is for God’s people and Church, and it is needed when we become hard and cold in our service for the Lord. I believe we are there and need a great move of God as Isaiah. 64;1, 2 says “Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, 2. As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the water to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!” We need a revival in our land!
