Our agency has been dedicated to continual improvement to better serve our community. I wanted to relay all our accomplishments and thank all the individuals, organizations, businesses, and schools that have helped us continue to move forward.
So far this year…
The San Saba County Sheriff's Office by the numbers
• Made 94 arrests
• Sent 5 individuals to TDCJ and 3 to SAFP
• Responded to 1,241 calls
• Made 93 agency assists
• Served over 300 pieces of Civil Process
• Entered 41 arrest warrants for completed cases
• Issued 433 citations and warnings
• Took over 3,963 calls into dispatch
• Had a daily average of 14.65 housed inmates through the jail
Agency Equipment Updates:
• We’ve been working on the new radio system that we received funding for. We are looking forward to how it will benefit all agencies working in San Saba County, including the San Saba Police Department, all Volunteer Fire Departments, Hamilton EMS, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
K-9 Andor
• We are very pleased at how effective our K-9 has been at addressing the growing national narcotics epidemic, locally.
• K-9 Andor has been working within San Saba County to locate and remove narcotics from our streets, and assisting surrounding agencies
• We would like to extend our gratitude to our local Tractor Supply Co. for their continued support and ensuring K9 Andor is fed and healthy.
Government Funding
• In 2024, we were able to implement and hire a Mental Health Deputy utilizing the grant we received funding for. This is essential for better assisting our community members that are in manic or crisis mental states.
• We received Texas Senate Bill 22 funds again this year.
o We utilized these funds to purchase 2 new patrol vehicles as our fleet ages and needs to be replaced.
o We also utilized these funds to help supplement a full-time Investigator for our agency. This position is crucial for working through our case load and ensuring standards are being upheld.
o We have also used these funds to help supplement a full-time Administrative Clerk
Administrative Clerk
• We were able to hire a fulltime Administrative Clerk in 2024 that brings an abundant amount of knowledge and experience in office coordination, administrative support, public relations, financial management, and so much more.
• Our Administrative Clerk ensures our agency’s compliance and reporting are adhering to state and federal requirements.
• This position has freed up our law enforcement personal to focus on serving our community more effectively. We are extremely thankful for all her hard work.
Jail/Dispatch
• We hired, trained, and fully certified 2 new Dispatch/Jailers. Both individuals scored in the top of their classes and have been great additions to our agency.
Assisting Agencies
• Continued working closely with the County and District courts to protect the citizens of San Saba County
• Assisted in the Texas Department of Emergency Management Command Center for the Total Solar Eclipse that happened on April 8th, 2024
• Continuing to improve school safety by working with the school administrators at Cherokee ISD, Richland Springs ISD, Richland Springs ISD Police Department, San Saba ISD, and San Saba Police Department to keep the kids in our communities safe by improving and updating policies through Bi-Annual School Safety meetings.
Community Engagement
• We attended National Night Out, hosted by San Saba CommUNITY Supporters of the Badge Foundation, 501(c)3 in combination with San Saba VFD, Cherokee VFD, Hamilton EMS, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, & Texas Department of Emergency Management o They had over 100 participants
Citizen’s Academy
• We hosted our first Citizen’s Academy with assistance from the San Saba Police Department. We went over the following topics: General Law, Resiliency, Safety at home, Policies & Procedures, Criminal Investigations/ Crime Scenes, Jail/Dispatch, Local Courts, & K9 Encounters
• We had several incredible guest speakers including Chaplain Alsbrooks, District Attorney Elect Thomas Perry, County Judge Jody Fauley, and Justice of the Peace Sharron Blossman.
• Applications for the 2025 Citizen’s Academy will be available in the new year; keep an eye on our Facebook page and the San Saba News & Star newspaper for more information.
Looking Forward
• In 2025, we will be hosting another Citizen’s Academy, in April. Application can be picked up at the county jail at 104 S. Water St. or the Sheriff’s Office on the 2nd floor of the San Saba County Courthouse.
• Next year’s National Night Out will be on October 7th, 2025.
• We have 2 vacancies in our agency, one for a full-time Deputy and another for a full-time Dispatch/Jailer. Please contact us for more information.
The year 2024 has been another year of growth for our agency, and I could not have done all this without the hard-working men and women in the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office. Please be sure to thank them when you see them. We’ve come a long way during the past 5 years that I’ve been Sheriff, and we have further to go. We are far from done though and we will be constantly striving to better protect and serve our community. Thank you for continuing to support our agency.
