San Saba ISD Board of Trustees cut tax rate

On August 31, 2022, at a special called board meeting, the San Saba ISD School Board met to finalize the 2021-2022 budget and to adopt the 20222023 budget for the district. The board held several budget discussions throughout the summer. They worked diligently to adopt a budget that illustrated the values of the district.

The new budget includes a three percent raise for all employees of the district. The value of the employees of the district cannot be understated. These community members that work with the students on a regular basis are the backbone of the success of San Saba ISD.

Outstanding fiduciary oversight also allowed the San Saba Independent School District to lower the tax rate for its residents. This reduction of $0.24 is the result of diligent oversight of the finances for the school. With the rise in property values across the district, the board was determined to lower the tax rate and pass any savings along to the taxpayers. School Board President Kevin Shahan stated, “The management through the school year, as well as the past several years, has allowed the district’s financial status to impact student learning and activities.”

At the regular board meeting held on September 12, 2022, the San Saba ISD board discussed several items. The new SHAC guidelines for this school year were adopted. Most importantly, the board heard the annual academic achievement report (TAPR) from the state of Texas. This year, the report reflects the success of each campus achieving a B rating. As well, the district received an overall rating of B thanks to the hard work of the students and teachers.
