On Tuesday, December 2, members of the San Saba Garden Club met at the Nature Park to plant wildflower seeds along the south facing berm, visible from Hwy 190 as vehicles pass by. The wildflower seeds were provided to the club as part of the effort of TGC President Linda Jean Brown's 2025-27 Project Wildflower seed planting contest.
Prior to planting leader Barbara Bell met with Chris Stewart, San Saba Parks Department, to determine location of seeding. Chris agreed that in addition to the Park that the welcome signs would benefit from wildflower displays.
Barbara also spoke to Reshee Soto of Texas Highway Department.
They endorsed the planting, insisting that planters wear safety vests which they provided along with packets of bluebonnet seeds.
San Saba Garden club members Denise Mayfield, Juanita Proffitt and Teri Gunter, each brought their favorite planting tool.
They donned safety vests and planted wildflower seeds along the south facing slope, inside Nature Park.
Then in teams of two: Denise Mayfield and Tina Gunter went East and West to the Welcome signs where they planted wildflowers & bluebonnet seeds.
Barbara Bell and Juanita Proffitt distributed seeds North, opposite, Route 500, and South along the East side of Hwy 16.
