San Saba Garden Club is gearing up for a new year of fellowship, informative programs, gardening projects, and a few area pilgrimages. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, September 3rd at 2 p.m. in the historic Garden Club building located in Mill Pond Park.
Since our last meeting in May, our civic minded membership has maintained the keyhole garden at San Saba Rehab Center, tended the flower beds at the clubhouse, planted pink yuccas and lantana at the ClearView Resource Center and presented the new facility with a metal bench for the shaded area near the entrance. We also enjoyed the fireworks and delicious snacks in Mill Pond Park in our own yard on Independence Day, July 4th!
Looking ahead to the new year, programs will center around landscaping plans and determining what types of plants to use in our personal spaces, seeking successful harvests from vegetable gardens, and choosing drought tolerant plants to attract pollinators in our yards. We will participate in charitable giving; celebrate the history of our very own San Saba Garden Club; encourage the youth of our community to enter contests featuring nature, conservation, and recycling themes; and we will have a huge garage sale in the spring!
If any of this sparks your interest, we certainly want to enthusiastically invite you to join us September through May of the next Garden Club year! Programs are normally the first Tuesday of each month, September through May, at 2 p.m. at the Mill Pond Park clubhouse. Some months we meet elsewhere.
