On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) gathered at 2:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse at Mill Pond Park to commemorate the beginning of their 89th year in continuous existence. Seventeen members, including new member Tina Gunterina and her daughter, attended the special occasion honoring the club’s remarkable history.
Jacqueline Carlson conducted the meeting, filling in ably for President Debbie Shahan, who was unable to attend.
Hostesses Janice Bates (chair), Jacqueline Carlson, and Marissa Kilman created a warm and inviting atmosphere with winter-themed refreshments and décor. The beverage station and buffet tables showcased arrangements of fir, pine, and holly greenery interwoven with red berries and pillar candles, reflecting the season's beauty. Touches of rosemary sprigs and fresh cranberries adorned serving trays, adding a festive and aromatic flair.
Guests enjoyed a menu of fresh fruit, cocktail sausages, pepper jack cheese cubes, cream cheese drizzled with gourmet preserves, party crackers, and mini-Naan scoopers. Beverages included a refreshing punch and cranberry-infused ice water, beautifully accented with fresh rosemary sprigs.
The highlight of the meeting was a fascinating presentation by the club’s esteemed historian, Dianna Furlan. Her engaging talk chronicled the remarkable history of the San Saba Garden Club, recounting both its proud achievements and the challenges it has faced over the decades.
As the SSGC embarks on its 89th year, the club invites residents to join its mission of fostering community and celebrating nature. Meetings are held monthly, and visitors are always welcome.
