The regularly scheduled Thursday luncheon of the San Saba Rotary Organization was held at Pepperbelly's, Secretary Jacqueline Carlson presiding.

Treasurer Kevin Shahan conducted the meeting, reviewing the 2022-2023 Treasurer’s report. The Balance Sheet from June 30, 2022, showed group assets of $134,358.25 as compared with assets of June 30, 2023, showing assets of $129,548.28.

The 9th Annual Rotary Golf Tournament scheduled for September 30, 2023, is planned to fund recognition awards and scholarships for San Saba area Honor Students as well as Youth focused civic projects for this upcoming year. Last year, $12,000 in scholarships were awarded to deserving San Saba County students as a result of the successful fall golf tournament held at the San Saba Municipal Golf Course.

Sponsorships of the tournament from local businesses range from $150 each per local small business to major top billing sponsorships of $1,500 donated from larger businesses. Each donor receives advertising recognition in the newspaper and other forms of recognition.

A regular Rotary activity, where members contribute $5.00 each week to raise funds which then fund weekly drawings, saw Dora Miller draw the winning Ace of Spades card winning her half of the current pot. The remainder of the funds remain with the local organization.

Dora’s winnings of $1,045, she has magnanimously already designated to purchase school supplies, donate to a local fund for a critically injured local resident, purchase student gas money and fans for family suffering from heat, and the remainder of the funds to be donated back to the local SS chapter of Rotary to continue the organization’s civic and community future goals!

Congratulations, Dora Miller!
