The Pierian Study Club held their March meeting at the San Saba Civic Center. The Nominating Committee composed of Loy Nell Behrens, Chairman, Jacqueline Carlson and Donna Baker who were hostesses for the event.

Members attending included Anita Adams, Donna Baker, Loy Nell Behrens, Celia Bell, Gail Bruner, Jacqueline Carlson, Marcia Dyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Marjean Henderson, Gale Ivy, Shelly Mahan, Ann McElroy, Kathy McEwen, Mary Margaret Morehead, Cydney Pearce, Kay Stowell, Debbie Shahan, Patty Shaw, Martha Leigh Whitten and Cissy Williams. New member, Leah Oehrlein, as well as Associate Member, Kay Nettleship, were also present. Members Trish Warren and Linda Sloan will be transferring to Associate Members.

A program on City of San Saba services was presented by Scott Glaze, Director of Public Works, along with the following staff members: Sarah Saldivar, EDC & KSSB; Luis Rios, Streets; Jason Vogel, Animal Control; Eugene Bessent, Parks; Michael Whitley, Golf Course; Bruce Steward, Maintenance; Norman Pierce, Fleet Management; Juan Montoya, Sanitation/Recycling; Denver Daniel, Electric; and Jessie Hunt, Water/Wastewater. A power point presentation featuring these City Department Supervisors with their staff was prepared by Sarah Saldivar.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, members were served turkey cranberry, cream cheese with olives, and pimento cheese sandwiches, as well as grapes and party mix with pretzels and nuts. A delicious white cupcake with green frosting and a shamrock on top was served along with lime flavored sparking water.

President Marcia Dyer opened the meeting with the Club Collect. To save time, the Financial Report had been sent out previously to members. Shelly Mahan, Project Chairman, was accepting “love gifts” for Dove Project as well as selling raffle tickets to win Bloom 'N' Sprout gift certificates. The money raised from sale of raffle tickets will be used to support the scholarship fund.

President Dyer presented the option to increase dues which was passed unanimously. The change will begin next year. Associate Dues will not change.

Shelly Mahan told the group they have been invited to attend the Dove Project’s annual golf tournament scheduled in April.

The next meeting will be on April 8, 2021, and will be held at the San Saba Hotel where Kristen Millican with Millican Pecan Candy will present the program.
