The Pierian Study Club met for their first meeting of the year at the new Pecan House Grill in downtown San Saba. Hostesses for the meeting were the Cards and Flowers Committee, composed of Anita Adams, Chairman, Linda Sloan, Jeri Jones and Mary Morehead.

Today’s program was presented by Clay Nettleship, owner of Pecan House Grill. Clay, who is an attorney and business man, believes in investing in our community. He had purchased the building in 2006 with the idea of an upscale restaurant but felt that the time wasn’t right yet. He spent 14 years planning for this type of businesses. San Saba has grown in recent years, and now seemed the perfect opportunity for this type of upscale restaurant. We wish the best of luck to Clay and all his employees.

After the program, Marcia Dyer opened the meeting with the club call. Members attending today were Anita Adams, Loy Nell Behrens, Cecilia Bell, Gail Bruner, Jacqueline Carlson, Marcia Dyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Karen Henson, Gale Ivy, Lynn McHenry, Shelly Mahan, Kathy McEwin, Cydney Pearce, Sherry Ruddick, Debbie Shahan, Patty Shaw, Linda Sloan, Marsha Smart, Sandy Smith, Audrey Smith, Patricia Warren, Joanne Weik, Anna Wilson, and Cissy Williams. Associate Members Connie Adams, Bebe Bagley and Kay Nettleship were also present.

Members enjoyed different flavored cake balls from the Bread to Dough Restaurant, as well as fresh fruit and lemonade.

President Marcia Dyer told the group that the Executive Committee had met prior to this meeting to discuss several items – one being an increase in dues. It was suggested that dues be increased to $50 a year. This will be voted on at next meeting.

Committee chairmen were asked to give a report if needed.

Yearbook Committee Chairman, Joanne Weik, told members that the February meeting had been moved to the San Saba Hotel.

Projects Committee Chairman, Shelly Mahan, said that the Dove Project was in need of several household items and that next month was when a collection would be taken for the facility.

Kathleen Hawkins, treasurer, presented a breakdown of the memorials that have been donated to the Scholarship Fund for the club. Member dues are due at this time. The Scholarship Fund will need to be supplemented in order to provide for upcoming senior class scholarships. This will be further discussed later in the year.

The February meeting will be held on February 11, 2021, at the San Saba Hotel and will feature a program from Amber Harper, activity director of the San Saba Nursing and Rehab Center.
