Pierian Study Club holds meeting September 9th

The Pierian Study Club met on September 9, 2021, for their first meeting of the new year at the San Saba RV Meeting Room. The Yearbook Committee, composed of Joanne Weik, Chairman, Gale Ivy, Marsha Smart, Celia Bell, Audrey Smith, and Debbie Shahan, were hostesses for the meeting. Other members present were: Anita Adams, Marjean Alexander, Donna Baker, Loy Nell Behrens, Celia Bell, Gail Bruner, Susan Clark, Jacqueline Carlson, Marcia Dyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Jeri Jones, Shelly Jones, Shelly Mahan, Kathy McEwin, Lynn McHenry, Mary Margaret Morehead, Cydney Pearce, Debbie Shahan, Patty Shaw, Marsha Smart, Audrey Smith, Kay Stowell, Joanne Weik, Patricia Warren, Martha Leigh Whitten, Cissy Williams, and Anna Wilson.

The tables were covered with a crisp, white table cloth with a green ivy runner down the center, and the fall decor theme was featured with pumpkins, candles, and other decorations sitting on a wood coaster. The guests were served a delicious egg and vegetable casserole, freshly dressed grapes, muffins, and a strawberry salad with a vinaigrette dressing along with lemon bars for dessert. Drinks included fruit-infused water along with orange mimosas.

The program today featured Scott Edmonson, the new City Manager for San Saba. Scott briefly told about his life prior to San Saba. He had worked as a County Agent before going into city government work. He was working for the City of Llano before he accepted the position here. He briefly talked about some of the ongoing projects in town. We welcome Scott and his family to San Saba!

President Marci Dyer opened the meeting by welcoming each member. Debbie Shahan led the Club Collect. Each member received their new yearbook for the coming year. The programs are a continuation of last year’s program – “Striving to Know our Community.”

Yearbook Committee Chairman Joanne Weik discussed changes in the program and asked each member to check their names and other contact information for errors. The other committee chairmen reporting included: Projects – Shelly Mahan, Entertainment Committee – Patty Shaw, and Cards & Flowers Committee – Anita Adams.

Members were informed that a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held in Mill Pond Park on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The next meeting will be on October 14, 2021, at member Marcie Dyer’s home when Lonestar Social Services will be featured with Dr. James Mercer and Savio Martinez presenting their program.
