Members of the Pierian Study Club met at the lovely home of member, Marcia Dyer, for their October meeting. The Projects Committee was hostess for the meeting. The Projects Committee includes: Shelly Mahan, Chairman; Anna Wilson, Ann McElroy and Gail Bruner. Members attending the meeting were: Anita Adams, Loy Nell Behrens, Celia Bell, Gail Bruner, Jacqueline Carlson, Marcia Dyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Shelly Mahan, Kathy McEwin, Cydney Pearce, Debbie Shahan, Linda Sloan, Marsha Smart, Kay Stowell, Joanne Weik, Martha Leigh Whitten, Cissy Williams and Bebe Bagley.
Members were served a slice of cranberry orange bread, along with mini-pecan muffns and toasted pecans on a seasonal fall plate accompanied by applecinnamon-spice tea and lemoninfused water. Fall decorations were seen throughout the house.
The program was presented by Ashley Johnson from Hill Country Community Association. In 2011, Ashley joined HCCA in a part-time position. In January of this year, she was named Director of Finance and Administration. She discussed the various programs administered by HCCA. These include: Head Start Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Weatherization, Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program, Nutrition Services, Meals on Wheels, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Payments for Child Care Services and various miscellaneous grants.
Committee reports were given from Yearbook, Membership, and Cards and Flowers committees.
The next meeting of the Club will be held on November 12th at the home of Joanne Weik and will feature a program from San Saba Olive Oil Company.
