The Pierian Study Club held their February meeting at the home of member Joanne Weik. The Membership Committee composed of Katheen Hawkins, Chairman, Marjean Alexander, Lynn McHenry and Cydney Pearce were hostesses for the event.

Members attending included Marjean Alexander, Brooke Bagley, Donna Baxter, Lou Nell Behrens, Celia Bell, Gail Bruner, Jackelyn Carlson, Marcia Dyer, Kathleen Hawkins, Gale Ivy, Rhoda Killian, Shelly Mahan, Ann McElroy, Kathy McEwin, Cydney Pearce, Debbie Shahan, Patty Shaw, Marsha Smart, Audrey Smith, Joanne Weik, Anna Wilson, and Cissy Williams. Associate Members Anita Adams, Kay Nettleship, Sherry Ruddick, and Trish Warren were also present.

Members were served a tasty turkey sandwich with cranberries and pecans on a croissant roll, spicy nuts, and red velvet cupcakes made by Vicki Key. Fruit infused water was served as well.

The program today continued with “Striving to Know our Community” with Donna Blossman discussing San Saba Mission. Donna and Jack Blossman started San Saba Mission in 2004 as a local youth mission. The program has continued and over the years has benefited many local citizens by repairing and renovating their homes. It is a work of love that many individuals and businesses have contributed money, materials and time to.

Kathleen Hawkins, treasurer, gave a report of scholarship funds that have been contributed mostly through memorials. A lively discussion was held on the distribution of these funds.

Short reports were presented by Membership Chairman Debbie Shahan. Yearbook Committee Chairman Joanne Weik; Projects Committee Chairman Shelly Mahan reported on Dove Project needs; and Nominating Committee Chairman Loy Nell Behrens reported that a new slate of officers for the next two years would be presented at the March meeting.

A collection was taken for the Dove Project. Once a year the Pierian Study Club members donate to this shelter as a way of helping and encouraging citizens of our community undergoing serious hardships in their lives.

The next meeting will be on March 10, 2022, at the Jordan Cattle Company where Ken and Kynda Jordan will discuss their cattle auction business.
