San Saba County Friends of Animals has confirmed its first case of parvo at the shelter, and out of an abundance of caution, we are temporarily closed to the public, volunteers, and all intake until March 1st.
Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus that mainly affects dogs, especially puppies and unvaccinated pets. It spreads easily through contact with contaminated surfaces, soil, or even shoes and clothing, which is why quick action and strict quarantine are so important.
With cases being reported around our area, we strongly encourage pet owners to make sure their dogs are up to date on vaccinations. Parvo is preventable, and vaccines are the best protection.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we focus on keeping the animals in our care safe and stopping the spread.
