Lenny's Life Lessons

Hello, my adorable San Saba hearts of hope and love! I sure hope you have had a good week since last I communicated with you. I am proud to say I have been hard at work transforming mom from human to full on cuckoo bird. I take such joy in the unexpected, the unpredictable. Quite frankly, she might be sitting quietly pondering some major concern when I come flying across the room, pounce onto her lap and kiss her nose as if it were a popsicle! I tell ya, the look of shock and surprise is priceless!

In case you haven’t surmised by now, I am a rather bossy, spoiled, demanding dachshund. According to mom, who has had dachshunds in her life for most all of her years, says it is an inborn trait, a natural part of our personality. Well, I am here to tell you, mom contributes to my delinquency because I happen to be adorable and irresistible! I simply have to look at the woman and food appears, doors open, treats are given! Yep, she blames the breed and me, but nope, slap the handcuffs on her!

Mom seems to be fading with age, and I told her as much. She laughed and said… “Lenny, I was old when you met me, but you brought new youth to my heart. The thing is with humans, we have to carry ourselves around on only two legs, not four, and we do not have someone to do every little thing for us like a little dachshund I know. You don’t clean house, cook, make the bed, wash clothes, or do any chores because your job in life is to love me! Lenny, I am not fading, I am merely shading my future.” I felt so great hearing she felt like she has a future!

Friday night, mom and I were out in the porch and truly felt as if we were on an episode of Friday Night Lights! We could hear the sounding drums, the band playing, the announcer and the roar of the crowd! I have never seen any of it other than on television, but now my dachshund heart has heard the total Texas excitement! I don’t quite know why, but it made me feel more at home than ever before!

I am often struck by what makes San Saba such a very special place. It is not a perfect place, there is no such place, but the vast morning sunrises and sunsets, the kindness of the people, the warm embrace of the downtown area, and the willingness of others to help each other makes it amazing and beautiful. Have a beautiful week, dearest ones; we love you so much!

Love, Lenny
