Lenny's Life Lessons

Hello, beautiful San Saba loves, and boy am I happy to be talking to you! Mom and I have had a rather interesting week since our last conversation. I am so happy for my human mom because I have come to the conclusion that Mother Nature is trying to fry me or blow me into the next universe!

Mom bought a portable garage because our house is a shoebox, our lawn mower is electric, not supposed to get water on it, and well, quite frankly, because mom would rather live with a rabid raccoon than a cluttered house! I may be a dachshund, but even I am cognizant of the saying “so much for best laid plans!”

Our garage decided it was a plane, or perhaps “Super Garage” and went flying right out of our yard during the storm that moved through! Mom and I had the biggest mess left behind!! Paintings scattered all over, bins turned over, things scattered everywhere! I didn’t want to think it, really I didn’t, but my dachshund mind went there anyway…mom gets something to help her organize, spends a ton of energy organizing it, and in a blink of an eye, good old mom nature says… “here, let’s play pickup sticks with all your stuff!”

The strange thing about mom though... as she brought things inside, I saw sweet recognition and memories light her face from photos she found, her San Saba doughnut shop coffee buddies, Patches’ first ever column for this paper, and even a few mom had written before we talented dachshunds took over the writing duties. Mom takes hardship, the negative, and seems to find what is beautiful even in those things.

I know this would sound crazy to most of the country, but our weather being in the 90’s this week was such a relief! Lately, the only weather I have cared about was whether I felt like dipping myself in ice cream or Sherbet! I can only wish mom would actually let me do that; she has me on a diet! Yep, my treat is green beans with a smidge of chicken. One day, as she placed the bowl down for me to eat. I looked up at her and asked her if she would eat it if someone prepared it? She looked at me and with all honesty and replied… “absolutely not… I hate it! I would eat the bowl before I would eat what’s in it!” Hm, very interesting, Mom!!

If the heat has not taken over our world, the bugs certainly have! Mom smiled the other day when a cricket and grasshopper seemingly had words over who would jump on her head first! I am glad mom finds such antics humorous because I do not! Mom belongs to me! I am her only bug!

Mom and I sure hope each of you have an amazing week, and should life blow trouble your way, pick up the pieces, and see the value in them! We love you more than we can ever express!
