Lenny's Life Lessons

Hello, my precious San Saba loves, and how in the world are you? I hope you have had a wonderful week since last we spoke. I can tell you I have spent every single day falling more in love with living here and diligently trying to train mom to slow down, relax, and actually take a moment to breathe in the pure joy of just enjoying the moments.

One night this past week I seriously thought about biting her because the woman was awake and mopping floors in the middle of the night!! I hid under the covers, growling, flipping, flopping, trying to sleep, and when she emptied the bucket, she began rearranging furniture! I hopped out of bed and started packing up my toys, sweaters and asked her where her phone was as I was going to call Mandy Houge Finch to come rescue me for the night so I could get some sleep!

You know how I talk about treasures here in San Saba. Well, I met Tracy Stone Thomas, and what a gracious, kind, and amazing soul she is! The entire time she visited with us, I laid quietly next to her while she gently, and lovingly stroked my head. I immediately felt so connected to her calm loving, beauty. Also, our Mandy is always there for us, always ready to help us, and I see mom’s heart light up right there on her face because of it! Very simple things most people take for granted, some people have lived without, have lived a life devoid of basic caring, so discovering it again truly is a treasure. Before mom moved back here, I was her only treasure and her mine.

Mom laughed at me the other day and said my sitting in the window barking at every perceived threat in our yard reminds her of a dog playing a video game. She said my barks are like sound shots directed at what I perceive as intruders into my world of peace and calm. I do not even like when someone walks down the street, which, by the way, mom tells me I have no legal claim. By the way, we will just have to forgive mom for thinking that way; we all know I am the dachshund boss of everything!

I have to say our Mandy Houge Finch is the best daughter mom didn’t give birth to! I have seen her do more for mom, gotten more hugs and love her, seen her be a real daughter to mom than anyone ever! Mandy goes out of her way to care, to help, to love, to stay true to her faith. Thank you, our sweet child!

Yesterday Lolli Bagby Hamrick came by for a visit; she noticed one of mom’s paintings on the wall and fell in love with it. Mom smiled, told Lolli there was a rule in our house that if someone loved a painting on a wall, it was automatically their painting and they got to take it off the wall and bring it home. Life is very simple my dearest ones; it is never about what it gives you, but what you live to give life. I hope you have a beautiful week, and we love you to chicken bits!
