Lenny's Life Lessons

Hey there, San Saba loves, and I have to say mom and I are so happy to welcome a new month into our lives! How appropriate our country is celebrating freedom because hopefully very soon we will be free to breathe in life unencumbered by the feeling of continued loss. By the way, I decided to stop referring to mom as “ my servant” as she is the only parent I have now, which is a bit strange because she is really the only parent I have ever known.

I sure hope life has brought your hearts laughter, joy, silliness, wonder, the magic of discovery and love since last we spoke.

Something kind of strange happened; a man came to the house from a funeral home called Crowder Funeral Home saying he was bringing daddy home. Mom chose them because they began their business right down the street from her in La Marque, Texas, in 1959. Yep, she grew up with the entire family.

Anyway, he told mom he wanted to bring dad home, but what he brought was a silver kind of thing! Um, dad didn’t even have silver hair; he was bald!

He was nice, very nice actually, but I asked mom why he lied to us? She hugged me close to her and explained that the container was an urn and inside were daddy’s ashes. I did a dachshund head tilt, got a tear in my eye, and said, “But mom, daddy isn’t supposed to smoke cigarettes anymore!” I really do not think mom has hugged me with more love than she did in that moment!

There is something I am discovering, love never leaves a heart, and not even death can remove or negate memories. Yes, there may well not be more tomorrows, and yet there were the yesterdays. And they are priceless, even the rocky ones!

Think about it this way, my loves, one cannot reach higher in life without climbing over things! We love you to chicken bits!
