Keep San Saba Beautiful (KSSB), partnering with the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the City of San Saba, brings another beautification project to your community, located at the northwest corner of SH 16 (South High Street) and Commerce Street.

In early 2023, a supporter of KSSB’s efforts made a generous memorial donation specified for a KSSB beautification project. This donation led to an addition to the City’s plans for improvements on SH 16, south of the traffic light. The site chosen was the corner of the recently resurfaced EDCowned public parking lot. With EDC’s approval, KSSB’s project plans were underway.

KSSB sought out to find the perfect rock for their new project. Tony Jacobs, Jr., owner of Jacobs Stone Products (JSP), assisted the group in the selection of a beautiful native sandstone. He not only provided some advice, but he donated the approximate 4 x 5-foot stone. City employees then tackled the chore to transport the rock to and from the engraving location. Meanwhile, awaiting the engraving to be completed, the City employees were hard at it: preparing the location - from leveling the area; pouring concrete curbs, borders and platforms; to mounting a solar-lite flagpole. The enhancement of the current rock bed and the addition of fine gravel to the two side xeriscape beds brought the project together. The different City departments added their expertise to this project making it an awesome outcome. KSSB greatly appreciates all the individuals that made this come together: the street department-Luis and crew, general maintenance-Bruce, electrical department-Denver and crew, Buddy, and Admin-Scott and Scott.

A special touch: a memorial plaque was placed on the stone and to be added later, a special flower planter signifying the blooming beauty of the two special individuals which gave beauty to the San Saba Community: Reva and J. R. Edgerton. Reva served for many years as the San Saba Elementary School librarian, making wonderful memories for many students and co-workers during her career. J. R. was a hard-working man, which amongst many other accomplishments, worked with Buster Martin at a local business in the downtown area, White’s Auto.

May this “Welcome to San Saba” message bring the joy and warm greetings to visitors and residents alike, the message that Reva and J. R. gave to this community throughout their lives.
