World Turned Upsidedown

Hello there, my San Saba snow birds! Can you believe twice in less than two weeks we have seen the flakes fall from the sky and cover the ground of central Texas? Has someone put the puzzle of the United States together incorrectly and placed Texas where it does not belong? My Facebook friends keep asking me if I have gone out to play in the white stuff, and to me, that is like asking me if I would like to have a nice dip in a bath filled with ice! The answer would be, no! If you want to know the truth, I have been having my meals sent to the couch so I might eat them under the comfort of my blanket. I tried to talk mom into devising a porta-potty, and yet she insisted on making me venture outside to do my business; such cruelty!

We experienced quite a historic week, didn’t we? As a dachshund I don’t presume to understand the first thing about what transpired because human nature is a complete mystery to me. Dogs do not poop where they live, and yet I watch humans do it with impunity, ease and without thought to consequences. When first we heard about what happened in DC, I looked at mom and asked…“Mom, something I don’t understand, why is everyone fighting…aren’t we all in the same boat? Isn’t this place called America, and isn’t it everyone’s home? Why did those people have to die?” I didn’t mean to, but I made tears well up in mom’s eyes. Mom hugged me ever so gently and said…“Herman, I don’t have an answer because in all my 68 years of life and with all the tragedies these eyes have witnessed, never have they seen one as horrific or wrong as this!”

I feel like singing The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow; who wants to sing along with me? Yeah, seems we need lots of hope, harmony and happiness around here! I tell you what, how about instead of toting guns, we all go around with tote bags? Yeah, they could have cute little wire haired dachshunds on them! We could start the badger dog club and go around collecting treats! Here is what is cool: I am the boss of everyone at my house, and I am the smallest one in it…talk about power! Sounds rather enticing, doesn’t it?

If there is one thing I know for certain, my San Saba loves, life does not just happen but goes where you take it. The choices you make end up determining the outcome of your next seconds, minutes, hours, days etc. What many do not consider is how precious those moments are, what a great gift they have been given and therefore they do not put enough thought and value into their choice and end up making choices that hurt not only themselves but so very many others. I love and value you so much, my dear San Saba friends, always have and always will. I hope you have a wonderful week until we speak again, and thank you for being.
