The San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) embraced the beauty of fall at its November meeting, held in the Mill Pond Park Clubhous e . Hostesses Rhonda Killion, McKinley Armstrong, and Denise Mayfield set a festive tone with unique fall décor and a delicious buffet featuring the fragrances and tastes of autumn.
Attendees were treated to Ritz cracker ham and cheese sliders, fruit salad, festively beribboned gingerbread cookies, and an array of individually wrapped mini-bundt cakes in chocolate, spiced pear, apple-orange, and pumpkin flavors. Orange-infused chilled water completed the menu.
SSGC member Donna McKinney, a retired professional florist, took center stage to present a captivating program on “DIY Fall Arrangements.” Using a variety of containers and an assortment of greenery, berries, blooms, and grasses from local yards, along with flowers and fillers from the nearby florist, McKinney demonstrated a method of preparing containers for arranging stems. The results were impressive, and members left with arrangements that brought the essence of fall into their homes or made thoughtful gifts.
Typical of their charitable outreach, SSGC members individually contributed to the Grub Sack program at local schools and also arranged the Veterans Day annual placing of a patriotic wreath at the Veterans Blue Star Memorial just east of town.
The December meeting will continue the tradition of a Christmas gathering for members. Festivities will include a luncheon potluck, caroling, a holiday cookie exchange, and decorating a Christmas tree to display outside the clubhouse.
The San Saba Garden Club continues to be a vibrant hub for community engagement, fostering a love for gardening, creativity, and giving back. Membership is open, and interested individuals are encouraged to attend meetings as visitors or new members. For more information, please contact President Debbie Shahan dfshahan@centex.net.
