50 Years Ago July 19, 1973

Mrs. Nancy Clark Hicks, formerly of Bend and a 1960 graduate of San Saba High School, has been named to the Dean's List at Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth. Majoring in pre-law, her grade average was 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.

Mrs. Eunice Elliott and daughter, Jean Stanke, of Brownwood visited over the weekend with the Fred Elliotts and they all toured the LBJ Ranch.

Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Barclay of Houston visited a few days recently with her mother, Mrs. J. C. Montgomery, and her sister, Mrs. Grace Golden.

There was one baby born at San Saba Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Barnett are parents a Shana Leigh, seven pounds, eight ounces, born July 12.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Phillips of Irving for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Askey. They were accompanied home by their daughter, Traci, who visited the Askeys while her parents vacationed in Acapulco.

Mrs. Lula Gage, 93, was honored with a birthday party at San Saba Nursing Home where she resides. Present for the occasion were family members, friends and the nursing home staff. Mrs. Gage was born July 5, 1880, and her children are Mrs. Eva Black of Robstown and Odessa Gage, San Saba.

40 Years Ago July 21, 1983

Richard Darrin Barker, an outstanding San Saba FFA member, recently received a four-year, $8,000 college scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Darrin, son of Kay and Richard Barker, recently graduated as valedictorian of his class from San Saba High School.

Billie Walker recently returned from a division service and rehabilitation trainers meeting at the American Cancer Society learning center for district trainers in Dallas.

Our Goat Roping and Barrel Races, sponsored by the Riding Club, were very well attended. Damon Bush won the goat roping for the class over 50. We all had lots of fun and enjoyed the get together. ––Elm Grove Junior Evans and Melissa attended the Horse Show and Playday at Comanche.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Skinny Estep and Mrs. Roddy Maddox and Roman left for a trip to South Carolina, Pennsylvania and other points of interest. Beth wanted to see the county of her forefathers including the home of her grandfather.

The San Saba nine-year old All Star Little League team captured third place in the Llano tournament. The San Saba boys took the third place trophy behind the second place Llano team and the top ranked mason squad. San Saba players chosen for the 'All Tournament' honors were Jason Verette and Jon David Smart. Other team members included Bryan Shahan, Chris Cummings, Sam Owen, Chad Turner, Justin Ivy, Jason Ivy, Kevin Shahan and Ricky Robertson. The Boys were coached by Keith Shahan, Roger Verette and Eddie McGee.
