60 Years Ago July 11, 1963

San Saba was the fourth place winner in the Burnet Splash Day Swimming Meet, and the competition was very strong, Coach Buddy Priest said. Burnet was the first place winner with 794 points, followed by Llano, 383; Lampasas, 380; San Saba, 335; Fredericksburg, 112; and Marble Falls, 51 points. San Saba swimmers won eight first place ribbons including Jimmy Walker, free style; David Ward, breast stroke and butterfly; Darby Hardy, freestyle; Jerry Kidd, diving; Lane Bowen, back stroke and freestyle; and Lolly Maultsby, butterfly.

A real boon to San Saba Memorial Hospital is the lighting of the parking area. This was done by E. G. Risien, who always stands ready, willing and able to do something about a need when he sees it.

Mrs. Inez Garrett was in Arlington last week for a visit with her daughter, Miss Jonibeth Garrett, student at Arlington State College. While there she attended the play, 'The World of Carl Sanburg,' presented by the Little Theatre Group, of which her daughter is a member. Miss Garrett accompanied her mother home for a weekend visit here.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Robbins have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Carolyn, to Gordon Calley, son of Mrs. Gladys Calley of Cherokee and C. R. Calley of Lometa.

The yard of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Dofflemyer was selected 'theyard-of-the-month' for July by the judges for the project sponsored by San Saba Garden Club. The selection was made due to the conformity of the landscaping to the house, the general appearance, the maintenance and quality of the lawn and shrubs, according to the committee. The plaque has been placed in the yard and will remain there until the next selection is made for the month of August.

30 Years Ago July 8, 1993

Douglas and La Verne Chrane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13 at Mountain View Community Hall in Crane with their daughter and sonin- law, Dr. Michael and Linda Chamales of Lubbock, and their two grandchildren as hosts. La Verne Randolph married her husband on June 13, 1943 at the Church of Christ in San Saba.

Amy Vanessa Smith and Stacie Lauren Smith were among the 571 students that recently graduated from Angelo State University. Amy and Stacie are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Suber of Richland Springs, and Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Smith, also of Richland Springs.

Saturday night, June 5, 1993 two vehicles were stolen in San Saba. The owners of the vehicles were Donny Sanderson and James Stewart. After the cars were stolen, but before they were recovered, these vehicles were burglarized.

Tracy Womack and Thomas A. Behrens of San Saba High School attended a 'Live Fire Certification' workshop held recently on the campus of Tarleton State University. The two-day clinic provides the next level of training for those who have received hunter safety certification.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Rosales, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Martinez announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Jesus and Pilar.

RECIPE - Fruit Cobbler submitted by Aurelia Raesener Melt 1 stick of oleo in a pyrex dish.

Sift together in a bowl: 1 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt Add 3/4 c. milk to dry ingredients. Mix will and pour over the melted oleo. Do not stir.

Pour 1 c. sugar on top of fruit. Do not stir.

Bake in moderate oven 375° until brown.
