40 Years Ago March 3, 1983

In commemoration of its 100th birthday, The City National Bank will sponsor a giant centennial celebration featuring internationally-known baritone and San Saba native Thomas J. Stewart in concert at Rogan Field. City National Bank got its start when early-day merchants Thomas W. Ward and Wiley T. Murray decided to go into the banking business together in San Saba. Little did they realize their Ward-Murray Bank would someday celebrate 100 years of service to the community area.

The fourth, fifth and sixth grade Sunday School class at the First United Methodist Church will host a hamburger supper for everyone. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of a water buffalo for a family in India.

Eric Wade Moore celebrated his second birthday at his home on the Flying V Ranch in San Saba. The theme of his party was 'The Dukes of Hazzard.' Eric is the son of Wayland and Connie Moore and the brother of Brandon, Age 4 1/2.

Louis Flores, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolfo Flores of San Saba, has enlisted in the U. S. Army for a second tour according to a report from SFC Harrison F. Hamer Jr., station commander at the Brownwood Recruiting Station.

10 Years Ago March 7, 2013 Luis Vega, J. T. Mathis, Kelan Verette, Kolton Ellis and Garrett Welch were named to the District 12 A Academic All District Team in basketball this year. This honor is given to players who have maintained a 90 average or above in their high school classes this year.

The Cherokee elementary celebrated Dr. Suess's birthday in grand fashion on Friday! The teachers and volunteers decorated classrooms and the hall, books were read to and by students throughout the day, and a great day was enjoyed by all.

The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program is pleased to announce this year's Beekeeping Essay results. The first through third place individuals are listed below along with the award they will be receiving. The first place winner will also be advancing on to the National Beekeeping Essay Contest to compete for additional awards. 1st place–Lauren Kilpatrick Denton County - $300; 2nd place–Benjamin Murphy - Bosque County - $200; 3rd place–Melanie Hedley - San Saba County - $100 The Abilene Christian University Alumni Advisory Board is pleased to present Cmdr. David Bynum ('84) with the university's 2013 OutstandingAlumnus of the Year award. Bynum, a native of San Saba, Texas, is a chaplain in the U. S. Navy, which he has served for 18 years.

The Lady Dillo Golf Team finished as the second place team behind first place Marble Falls at the recent tournament held at the San Saba River Golf Course. Lady Dillo Megan Jennings also won 1st place Medalist with a score of 86. Members of the team include Fr. Hollee Ragsdale, Fr. Emily Esquivel, Soph. Megan Jennings, Jr. Elizabeth Bryant, Soph. Marissa Coffman-Spence, and Soph. Britney Rixse. The team is coached by Sharon Perry.
