Miss Ruth Harbuck, who received her degree from Texas State College for Women at Denton, during the past spring, has been elected to teach public school music at Belton, she has been notified by the Belton superintendent. Miss Harbuck is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harbuck of this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Kelly and daughter, Miss Dorothy, are spending the week encamped at Gorman Falls on the Colorado River. They are being joined there by Mr. and Mrs. Cal Spivey from the ranch near Burnet.
Richland Springs––San Saba County placed second in the race for aluminum in the district of 16 counties surrounding Abilene, where a Spurlock truck last week delivered free of charge the county's collection.
Mr. and Mrs. James Ellis accompanied their son, Mason Ellis, and his friend, Raymond Young, to Dallas where the young men entered the Southwestern Aeronautical Institute. Ellis is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Ellis and was one of the football team of the San Saba high school during his high school life. Young is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lath Young.
The Peoples Department Store which has been doing business here for the past ten years has been bought by L. J. Oshman and son, Jack Oshman, of Dallas, where they formerly were in the wholesale and jobbers business. Mr. and Mrs. N. Landau and family will perhaps make their home in some other part of the country.
Mr. U. M. Sanderson and daughter, Miss Berniece, have had as their guest Mrs. George R. Nesrsta and little daughter, Annice, of Ozona, the baby remaining with the grandmother and aunt while Dr. and Mrs. Nesrsta are vacationing in the western states, and while Dr. Nesrsta is attending a medical convention in Omaha, Neb., during their absence.
41 Years Ago August 13, 1981 Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bearden will be honored in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at the San Saba Senior Center.
Topper and Norma Lee Warren have returned from a ten-state vacation, highlighted by deep sea fishing off the coast of Florida. They report many beautiful sights but none as pretty as when they topped the five-mile hill east of San Saba.
Curtis Johnson brought in a 1904 copy of the San Saba News last week for us to look at. That happened to be the year he was born.
Remodeling on the San Saba Cap building will soon begin with C. A. Harkey handling the concrete work in order to add restrooms, etc.
Sunday afternoon, San Saba Police Dept. Chief Rex Fleming investigated a one-car accident behind the Cactus Cafe which resulted in a broken telephone pole. The driver lost control of his vehicle on Commerce St., skidded onto the corner and sliced the pole. No injuries were reported. Later that afternoon, three youngsters were issued citations for swimming in the Mill Pond.
Archie Lindsey, with the aid of the LCRA boys, reports that with 6 ceiling fans running and a display of light fixtures he used 55 cents worth of electricity in one day!
San Saba is growing, despite the error in the state's new highway markers showing our population at 2356. At the City Council meeting, Mayor Jack Miller and council officially received a report from the census bureau admitting a paperwork error omitting over 400 residents in San Saba. The official final count for the 1980 Census is recorded as 2826, with 1274 homes.

CROSSING ROUGH CREEK–This trio, pausing for a picture at Rough Creek in the early 1900's, could have been enroute to church services judging by their manner of dress. The group includes, left to right, Jack McGlothlin, Ann Ripple and Sally Maxwell, all of Colony. Mrs. Robert Hicks of Bend, daughter of Ann Ripple Towerton, provides the picture and says it was made at the crossing on Rough Creek near the Ripple home place, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. George Brister of San Saba.
