Mrs. H. B. Clark spent a few in Dallas shopping in the markets for Marie's Shop which was opened for business recently. The opening was well attended and shoppers enjoyed the cool atmosphere in the air-conditioned shop. Many flowers were sent to Mrs. Clark, expressing congratulations and success for the new enterprise.
Watermelons are moving fast out of Richland Springs. There were 19 railroad cars of melons that went out last week and the trucks have been very numerous with the delicious melons.
F. A. Townsend who has owned and operated a tailor and men's shop here for more than 25 years, has sold his tailor shop to Jack Smithwick, who has returned from defence work in Dallas. The shop is located in the Murray Building on the north side of the Plaza.
A card from Frank Chamberlain, who with his wife, is vacationing in Colorado Springs, Colo., says that it rains there every day.
New officers and directors of the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce, only organization of its kind in the city, are investigating the present status of the long-proposed dam for the San Saba River and which was investigated and proposed some time after the floods of July 1938, when the county suffered a $2,000,000 property loss, as well as loss of several lives.

Mrs. Stacy Oliver spent five days in Mason visiting Mr. and Mrs. Shannon Oliver and family. She also attended the two-day Roundup-Bicentennial celebration. She toured the Seaquist mansion and the restored officers house at Fort Mason.
There was one baby born at San Saba Memorial Hospital last week. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Sanchez are the parents of Yvonne, seven pounds, four ounces, born July 16.
Three members of the San Saba Ladies Golf Association garnered the top honors in the annual Ringer Tournament held at San Saba's Municipal Golf Course. Dorothy Sterner placed 3rd, Wadene Ivy placed 2nd and Frances Hill placed 1st.
With another 2.33 inches of rain falling the past week the official total for San Saba has now reached an even six inches for the month of July. This, so far, is the most July rainfall since 1971 when 7.70 inches were recorded.
Two of the winningest coaches in 6-man football will meet again in the annual East-West All-Star game at Brownwood. Coaching the East squad will be Roddy Maddox, of the State Champion Cherokee Indians in 1973 and 1975. Coach of the West squad will be Vance Jones of Marathon who were State Champions in 1974 defeating Maddox's Indians by a bare two points.
