60 Years Ago January 23, 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Gage were in San Antonio to attend the RCA Whirlpool sales meeting held at the El Antonio Motor Hotel there. Personnel from RCA Whirlpool's factories were present to demonstrate the 1964 line of merchandise.

The carpenters are making progress on the Sunday School rooms for the Holt Baptist Church. The children, as well as others, are anxious to see the building completed so they can have classrooms of their own. The younger classes have been meeting in cars until they could get this project underway.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith, Mrs. Wahnee Stallings and daughter, Donna Kay, went to Houston for a weekend visit with their son, Don Smith, a student at the University of Houston. They were all guests in the home of Mrs. Smith's nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bostick and children.

Miss Judy Faye Keele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude F. Keele, and Dewey Elmo Davis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Elmo Davis of Pontotoc, were united in marriage in the home of the bride's parents.

As a result of his use of a conservation irrigation system, E. J. Alderman produced about three bales of cotton to the acre on his field, located west of San Saba, in spite of the unusually dry year. Many other San Saba county farmers are becoming interested in conservation irrigation.

One of the latest projects of the San Saba County Junior Chamber of Commerce, known as Jaycees, was the construction of restrooms at the San Saba County Livestock Show Barn here.

40 Years Ago January 26, 1984

We had some more real cold weather last week. One morning the temperature was 4-5 degrees but no rain. This morning the temperature was in the upper 30's but had a light mist which disappeared about noon and the old sun came out, warming temperatures up to 60 degrees.

Lynn Stewart who recently resigned as Athletic Director for the San Saba ISD is now the new head coach and Athletic Director at Class AA Elgin. In his four years in San Saba, Stewart produced a 24-18-1 record and two play-off teams. Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Perez, announce the engagement and forth coming marriage of their daughter, Diana, to Sam Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Stewart of Llano.

Cactus Cafe is now under new management. It is operated by Christians in a Christian- like manner, specializing in steak and seafood with daily lunch specials.

Welcome to former San Saban Dave Davenport, who has returned to his roots to open a Public Accounting Office at 111 South High, and to his children Debbie and Chris.

Congratulations to Inez Garrett on being honored on Inez Garrett Day January 22 and express appreciation to her for her beautiful music, her keen sense of humor, her interest in the youth of the community, her dedication to her profession and her faith.
