There is a COVID vaccine clinic coming to San Saba County next month. On Thursday, November 10th, there will be an opportunity for our citizens to receive a COVID vaccine or booster.
Both initial vaccination and booster doses will be available. The vaccine clinic will be held at the Civic Center and no appointment is needed. Exact times have not been finalized but we will publicize those here and on the County’s Emergency Management Facebook page when we have those details.
Vaccines will be available for anyone aged 6 months or older, whether they need their first doses (the primary series) or a booster dose. Now, there is a booster that provides improved protection against many of the variants of COVID that are currently in our community – it is called a “bivalent booster.”
Even if you already had one or two booster doses, you are a candidate for this newer bivalent booster. It is recommended that this bivalent booster be given two months or more after the primary series or after a previous booster.
If you have had a COVID infection, you can still increase your body’s resistance to another infection with COVID by receiving the vaccine. You are eligible for vaccine as soon as you are recovered from the infection.
COVID seemed to dominate our thoughts and activities over the past few years, and now it appears to have been tamed. In truth, COVID is still quite widespread but fortunately the virus, as it has mutated over the past few years, is causing less severe illness.
While these new variants are less virulent (generally cause less severe illness) nonetheless, they are even more contagious than the original COVID virus. And some people do still have serious or severe infection with COVID, so protecting yourself and your family with vaccines is a reasonable step.
