Central Texas College was awarded a $530,000 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to provide training opportunities to the rural regions of Central Texas. Workforce Network, Inc. is collaborating with the college to bring apprenticeship training to first-year workers already in the plumbing or electrical trade and to those interested in entering those trades.
“Central Texas College and Workforce Network Inc. are working hard to get the grants necessary to prepare rural workers with the certifications and licenses necessary for skilled, high-paying jobs right where they live and work,” said Gail Davalos, Workforce Network’s Community Liaison. With the high demand for qualified, skilled trades workers, adult residents are given a chance to obtain the qualifications needed to take the next step in a well-paying career path.
Twelve openings each are available for students in the electrician and plumber apprenticeship certification programs. Once the training is done, students will have residential level apprenticeship certifications.
Training will take place at the Llano County Community Center, 2249 RR 152 West in Llano. The Llano County Commissioner’s Court has made the community center available for the duration of the training programs. All costs are paid by the grant.
Electrician training takes place in two sessions. The first session begins October 12; the second session is tentatively set for March 1 - June 28. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Plumber training also takes place in two sessions. The first session begins October 17; the second session is tentatively set for February 27 - June 26. Classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
To enroll in either class, call Workforce Network, Inc. at 830265-8024. The classes are open to residents of Llano, San Saba, and Mason counties. Eligible adults must be 18 years and older, U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, authorized to work in the U.S., be a worker or a jobseeker, and agree to a background check.
